Instagram Reels Updates

Instagram officially became a video immersive app in an announcement made by Head of Instagram, Adam Mosseri. After seeing the success of short form TikTok style videos, the platform is testing a change that automatically turns all video posts under 15minutes into Reels.

The company says the change, which is currently being tested with select users around the world, is part of Instagram’s plan to simplify video on the app.

“We’re testing this feature as part of our efforts to simplify and improve the video experience on Instagram,” a spokesperson from Meta said in an email.

Unless you opt out, people will be able to use any of your public posts (including still images) in their own Reels, similar to the ‘Remix’ feature on Tiktok.

This means there will no longer be any difference between Reels and video posts. The tabs on your profile will be merged and horizontal videos will be letterboxed to make them fit. The change will only apply to new videos – any videos you’ve already posted will remain as they are.

If you have a video podcast, clip more moments from each episode to promote on Instagram as reels to help others discover your show.
