Spotify announces a new focus on women creators

Celebrating International Women’s Day

Last week on International Women’s Day (8th March 2021), Spotify announced a new campaign to celebrate female creators: both musicians and podcasters.

The campaign titled ‘EQUAL‘ aims to demonstrate Spotify’s commitment to fostering equity for women in audio and celebrating their global contributions. The campaign includes partnerships, activations, new content experiences, and on- and off-platform support on local, regional, and international levels.

The campaign encourages listeners to support female podcasters no matter the month.

Spotify has created the ‘EQUAL hub‘ which aims to highlight podcasters and musicians who are shaping music and podcasting.

There is also a WOMN show, will release special episodes featuring a diverse group of creators, influencers, and cultural figures discussing women-centered topics, making personal reflections on music that has inspired them, and  encouraging listeners to stream more women too.

Off-platform initiatives

The podcast giant is also making strides off the platform by creating an invite-only EQUAL Board consisting of 15 organizations from around the world. Spotify will provide a one-time grant to each organisation, with the goal of finding tangible ways to make the audio industry more equitable for women creators.

Spotify will also be amplifying creators on social media and beyond.
