Apple has had their fair share of highs and lows this year with multiple users reporting issues uploading content, delayed release of episodes and so much more.

The podcast giant tried to bounce back by unveiling their podcast subscription service allowing podcasters to monetise their shows much easier without the use of 3rd party platforms like Patreon.

How do I access Apple podcast analytics?

  1. Head to https://podcastsconnect.apple.com/
  2. Sign in with the same Apple ID you used when you submitted your podcast
  3. Select Podcast Analytics from the dropdown menu in the top-left corner
  4. Dive into your listener data

What does updated Apple podcast analytics show?

Apple’s new listener analytics updates features new metrics and visualisation tools, giving you more in-depth data on your listeners.

Previously, analytics on Apple podcasts were very limited to how many listeners you have, average listeners and length of how long each episode was listened to.

Apple’s updated analytics will now tell you:

  • How many people are listening to your podcast episodes
  • Whether listeners are skipping over your episode intro or your second mid-roll
  • General overview of how your shows and episodes performing over time
  • How many listeners you have in each country and city

You now also be able to compare episode performance up to 60 days after being released on the ‘Performance’ tab.

With the introduction of Apple’s subscription service earlier this year, it seems that the tech company is on its way to redeeming its status in the industry.

However, it is worth noting that while Apple was the podcast giant for over 10 years, it is rather surprising that they have only decided to update and offer detailed podcast listener analytics in 2021. Newer podcast hosting platforms like Sounder already offer these features which goes to show that Apple may be feeling the pressures of what they have failed to offer podcast creators in the past decades.

Since podcasting has become mainstream due to the COVID-19 lockdown, Apple users seem to flocking to other platforms who are offering better hosting, promotional, editing services. Is 2021 the year Apple looses their title as podcast giant?
